Intermediate Systems Administrator (Malaysia Office)
English Speaking Role

Location: Malaysia Schedule: Sunday to Thursday, 8:30am to 5:00pm Department: Central Services

This role exists to keep client environments stable.

You focus on preventative maintenance, patch management, and infrastructure health across all clients. You work from alerts, maintenance schedules, and health reports, not from client calls or ticket noise.

If you like routine, ownership, and finishing what you start, this role is a good fit. If you need variety, adrenaline, or constant change, it will not.

What you will own

You are responsible for maintaining servers and network infrastructure across standardized client environments.

Your core responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring and responding to alerts from servers and network devices
  • Patch management for Windows servers and supported infrastructure
  • Verifying systems reboot correctly after patching
  • Rolling back failed patches and escalating when required
  • Troubleshooting and resolving backup failures, especially file servers
  • Performing firmware updates on firewalls, switches, and access points
  • Maintaining and cleaning up technical documentation
  • Producing weekly maintenance and patch compliance reports

You act first. If you are blocked for about 30 minutes or risk increases, you escalate to the Escalation Engineer in Canada.

Technologies you must be comfortable with

You are expected to operate these technologies at a maintenance and troubleshooting level, not design or architecture.

  • MFA platforms: Duo, Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and newer
  • Microsoft Entra ID, Office 365, Active Directory, Azure AD Connect
  • Patch management methodologies and verification practices
  • Virtualization platforms: VMware, Hyper V
  • Networking equipment: Cisco, HP, Ubiquiti, Dell
  • Firewalls: Fortinet, SonicWall, Sophos, Cisco ASA, Meraki

You should understand what commonly breaks, how to verify recovery, and when to stop and escalate.

How success is measured

You are successful when:

  • Patch compliance improves and stays within a 7 day SLA
  • Backup failures are caught and resolved quickly
  • Servers and network devices remain stable and predictable
  • Maintenance work is completed consistently and on schedule
  • Issues are escalated early, not hidden or delayed

If nothing breaks, you did your job.

What this role is not

  • Not a project engineer role
  • Not client facing
  • Not a ticket driven helpdesk position
  • Not a network or security architect role

This is a focused operational role.

What we are looking for

You should have:

  • Strong hands on experience with Windows Server environments
  • Proven networking knowledge, this is mandatory
  • Experience maintaining virtualized environments
  • Confidence working independently without constant direction
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • A steady, disciplined work style

You will not succeed here if you freeze when something goes wrong or wait for someone else to tell you what to do.

Growth

This is an L2 role with a future path toward L3 and project work. That progression depends on consistency, judgment, and trust built over time, not speed.
