Cybersecurity and the Construction Industry

By May 12, 2022January 10th, 2024No Comments

A report by IBM found that 74% of organizations are not prepared for cyber attacks and do not have a response plan in place to protect themselves against an attack!  In today’s world that is jaw-dropping!  What is even more shocking is the construction industry is the third highest-suffering industry from ransomware attacks, according to a list published by Safety Detective.

There is no way of completely preventing a cyber attack but there are a few steps you can take if you own construction business to protect your company and ensure it is as safe as possible.

The first thing is to invest in cyber insurance, which will cover you if the worst does happen. It is also relatively inexpensive and can be paid in monthly instalments.

For example, if an email or a link doesn’t look genuine, it most likely isn’t and so it should be avoided. It’s also important to have continuous training with your team. Making sure employees are trained in detecting suspicious cyber activity will significantly reduce the chances of an attack being successful. In addition, try to use pass-phrases rather than passwords as the latter is one of the easiest ways for hackers to access an employee’s personal information.  Learn more about how to make passwords easy on our here.

Remember the faster you react, the greater the chances of being able to minimize its impact. It is important to have a plan of action in place so that your organization is ready to fight an attack.
